Career Development

In addition to the formal classroom training, seminars, and journal club, students also have a wealth of opportunities to participate in both internal and external workshops for career development, as well as travel to regional and national meetings to present their research in poster or oral formats.

The capstone project is complemented with networking and learning opportunities with industrial visits at the interface of infectious disease and drug development. Further, fellows have the opportunity to engage in entrepreneurism training and an important aspect of academic drug discovery and development.

Individual Development Plan (IDP)

Trainees are expected to create an Individual Development Plan (IDP) in collaboration with their mentor and thesis committee. The IDP accounts for prior training, baseline skillsets and available resources. Training plans must include a research plan; professional development activities (e.g. seminars, journal clubs, conferences) within their own field of focus as well as at least one activity outside their area of focus; formal course work; external workshop participation; and an outline of key milestones and critical dates.
