Meet our new leadership

Lucy Flesch - Frederick L. Hovde Dean of the College of Science

Lucy Flesch

Prior to being named Dean of Purdue University’s College of Science, Lucy Flesch served as the senior associate dean for faculty affairs in the College. Among her many recognitions, Flesch received the American Geophysical Union’s 2022 Paul G. Silver Award for Outstanding Scientific Service, recognized by the global geology and geophysics community for her tremendous personal dedication and leadership for geodetic, seismic and tectonophysics research initiatives. Her research focuses on understanding how relative tectonic plate motions are accommodated throughout diffusely deforming continental regions where plate tectonic theory breaks down and quantifying the forces involved in driving this deformation.

Flesch joined the Purdue faculty in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences in 2005 and has been a full professor since 2016. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Beloit College, Master of Arts in mineral physics from Stony Brook University and PhD in geophysics from Stony Brook.

Edward Bartlett - College of Science Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs

Edward Bartlett

Bartlett’s research focuses on central auditory neurophysiology and neuroanatomy at the system and cellular levels to investigate changes in hearing circuits with aging, injury, or noise exposure. Bartlett was a Showalter University Faculty Scholar, is a member of the PIIN leadership team and Co-PI on an NIH-T32 grant for student Training Program in Auditory Neuroscience. He has served as the Undergraduate Curriculum committee chair in Biological Sciences, Chair of the college UCAP undergraduate committee and was lead on the Biological Sciences side in the development of the new Chemical Biology major.

 

Randy Bond - Chief Operating Officer

Randy Bond

Bond is a 1984 alumnus of the College of Science and the Computer Science Department. He spent 13 years working as a software engineer writing embedded code in the medical device industry and for an electricity meter manufacturer where he has four patents for applications in metering. He commenced his Purdue employment with the Computer Science Department in 1997 as the Computing Facilities Manager. From 2002-2015 Bond served as the Managing Director of the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security (CERIAS), and then for the past eight years as Assistant Department Head in Computer Science.

 

Janice Evans - College of Science Associate Dean for College Initiatives and Graduate Education

Janice Evans

Evans will build stronger collaboration across the diverse biomedical initiatives in the College and help strengthen ties with the IU School of Medicine in this new role. She is exceptionally qualified to take on this role with her administrative skill set and experience in building collaborations, for example as co-PI of the EMBRIO Institute, as well as in her previous position at Johns Hopkins University. Evans will also have oversight responsibility for the graduate programs in the College of Science, building on her experience as a graduate program director at Johns Hopkins.

 

Darryl Granger - College of Science Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs

Darryl Granger

Granger is a member of Purdue’s PRIME Lab and uses cosmogenic nuclides to understand geomorphology,  surficial processes, and human evolution. His research on caves and human evolution has been featured globally in the popular media and in documentary films and has been honored with the CoS Research Award. Granger is a fellow of both the Geological Society of America and the American Geophysical Union. He has a wide breadth of experience serving as both Interim and Associate Head in Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences and on the college’s UCAP undergrad committee.

 

Emily Kinsell - Director of Marketing and Communication

A dynamic and results-driven marketing and communications professional with a strong background in higher education, Kinsell comes to the College with a proven track record from the Department of Computer Science. Her proficiency in crafting compelling content and skillful orchestration of key messages across various platforms and multimedia channels will contribute to her success in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the College.

 

 Guang Lin - College of Science Associate Dean of Research and Innovation

Guang Lin

Lin brings extensive experience in team building and currently serves as the director of Purdue’s Data Science Consulting Service. He has received numerous awards, including the College of Science Research Award, NSF CAREER Award, Mid-Career Sigma Xi Award, University Faculty Scholar, Mathematical Biosciences Institute Early Career Award, and Ronald L. Brodzinski Award for Early Career Exception Achievement.

 

Jonathan Rienstra-Kiracofe - College of Science Associate Dean for Purdue Indianapolis STEM Education

Jonathan Rienstra-Kiracofe

Rienstra-Kiracofe was instrumental in creating the next-generation teaching labs for the Chemistry Department in Chaney-Hale Hall of Science, including the use of iPads for every student in the lab. As Associate Dean, he will work to ensure the successful implementation of the College of Science’s existing and future programs and courses in Purdue Indianapolis and provide a local presence in Indianapolis.
