Learning Beyond the Classroom
Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) is a certificate program that enhances student marketability in the work force by incorporating three key components needed in the real world:
- career and professional development
- service, citizenship, and leadership
- domestic and international diversity
Through learning communities, first year students have a great way to make friends and learn the ropes at Purdue. A learning community is a group of 20-40 students who take similar classes together, live in the same residence hall, or both.
Studying abroad during your college years is a once-in-a-lifetime experience not to be missed. The are a number of options (excluding transportation) cost little more than studying in West Lafayette.
The Center for Pre-Professional Advising at Purdue University provides you with the information you need to prepare for a career in a professional field – from choosing the right career for you to determining what credentials you need to enter that field and applying to various programs. Students from all majors and with interests in any pre-professional field are welcomed and encouraged to make use of the Center for Pre-Professional Advising as a supplement to the academic advising.
Purdue University and the College of Science offer multiple ways to assist our students in their career development from career exploration to graduate school preparation to finding a job at the complete of a degree. The College of Science’s Career Development and Retention Specialist is here to assist students with developing a greater understanding of themselves as a career professional and the opportunities that a College of Science degree provides.
Entrepreneurship and Innovation Certificate
Purdue’s Certificate in Entrepreneurships and Innovation Program offers the opportunity for Purdue undergraduate students in all disciplines to earn an academic credential in entrepreneurship complimentary to their major. Students learn about entrepreneurship through robust curriculum that exposes them to the knowledge, as well as the leadership and communication skills that individuals need to be successful entrepreneurs. They apply their knowledge through experiential learning activities and a rich ecosystem of experts and business incubation resources.
Science Diversity Office
Multicultural Science Programs in the College of Science facilitate the pursuit of science-oriented careers. It is the goal of these programs to increase representation from ethnic groups that are traditionally under-represented in the sciences. The College of Science values diversity and feels that students who study science in a diverse environment have a better academic experience.
