An ice storm could not stop 149 Purdue Science students in receiving their degrees Dec. 18 during the Winter Commencement.

Less than two days before the ceremony, an ice storm hit the Greater Lafayette area causing tough sledding. However, conditions improved enough to get family and friends to West Lafayette to see students receive their diplomas in Elliott Hall of Music.

The College of Science hosted a reception after the commencement in the Purdue Memorial Union. Students had a warm and cozy chance to visit with their fellow graduates before they embark on their next steps – graduate school, industry or the military.

Here is the breakdown of graduates receiving their bachelor’s degrees by department:

  • Biological Sciences – 21
  • Chemistry – 11
  • Computer Science – 57
  • Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences – 5
  • Interdisciplinary Science – 3
  • Mathematics – 47
  • Physics and Astronomy – 2
  • Statistics – 3

We congratulate the newest Science alumni on their success and we wish them success and prosperity.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you’re doing!
