I joined AMSS because the College of Science needed an active organization that could be used as a support system by minority students. Being surrounded by people that look like you and that are taking the same classes helps get rid of the feeling of isolation that comes with being a minority on such a large campus.

I chose to major in the life sciences because everything is relevant. There's so much covered by biology that you never stop learning. Research in biology is always new and it's always exciting; I love that there is so much to discover.
Name: Folasade Ajayi
I joined AMSS so as to connect with other multicultural students in my field of study, people whom I could relate with and share my academic struggles with.
Name: Tenaizus (Tin-Nae-Is) Woods
I am a Resident Assistant (RA) at Earhart. I am currently in my Junior year here at Purdue studying Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology. Upon graduation, I aspire to go to medical school to become a hematologist-oncologist. Summer of ‘16, I conducted research as an undergrad neurobiologist in Purdue's College of Science. This research entailed inhibiting proteins in the central nervous system (CNS) to observe any neurology deficits. Traveling is my greatest passion. Why travel? Through travel, I have an appreciation for and perspective on different cultures and lifestyles, and it challenges myself to step out of my comfort zone.
Name: Maryam Ali
I moved from the south suburbs of Chicago to Northwest Indiana in the 5th grade. I decided to continue my education here at Purdue where I am a sophomore pursing a Chemistry degree for dental school. I joined AMSS in order to connect with and provide resources for all multicultural science students, and am very excited to do so!
