Science, Technology, Agriculture - Academic Boot Camp (STEM ABC)

We are excited to see you on campus this fall as you start your academic career at Purdue University. The Multicultural Science Programs Office offers this summer transitional program for incoming students in the College of Science. The STEAM Academic Boot Camp will be held from July 9 – August 11, 2017. This is an intensive program that will offer students the opportunity to develop study habits that will lead to success, attend daily classes, explore the campus and meet other incoming students.

To help you get the most out of your first year, you are invited to participate in a special five-week program this summer to make the transition from high school to college as smooth as possible.

You've been told that college will provide different academic challenges than high school did, even for those students who have performed well. The Academic Boot Camp (ABC) has been designed to assist you successfully navigate these differences.

When you attend, you will:

  • Be introduced to college-level coursework and the necessary self-discipline to complete it;
  • Be provided academic tools to succeed in the College of Science, Purdue Polytechnic Institute and College of Agriculture;
  • Become acclimated to campus; and
  • Establish a beneficial network of students and professors.

  • Have a chance at earning additional scholarship aid.

During your five-week attendance in the program, you will take classes in the subjects of (but not limited to):

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Group Project
  • Science courses and labs
  • Time Management

In addition, since college isn't all work, you will engage in various recreational opportunities throughout the program.

Accommodations

Participants may check in on July 9 between 3 and 4 p.m. in Harrison Hall. Please allow ample travel time as the program will begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Cost

Thanks to our department sponsors, there is a minimal cost for the ABC program.

  • If you register and pay by June 1, cost is $600
  • If you register and pay after June 1, cost is $1000
