Thomas E. Arenberg

BS ’74, Mathematics, Purdue University
MS ’75, Industrial Administration, Purdue University
(Nominated by: Nominated by Mathematics)

"The work at Harley gave me a perspective on what it takes to make change happen on a large scale. I worked with them as they were near bankruptcy as well as when they had significant growth. Both situations provided me with a perspective that I use with the non-profits I work with today."

A Mathematics degree from Purdue can take you to some unexpected places – like on top of a heavy duty, high performance motorcycle and on top of that motorcycle’s manufacturing company.

As a consultant with Accenture, a management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company that helps clients become stronger businesses, one of Thomas E. Arenberg’s chief clients was Harley-Davidson.

For decades, Arenberg offered insights for the motorcycle company’s Milwaukee office. The time spent crunching numbers and developing business plans turned him into an avid motorcycle enthusiast as well.

"Over the following years I led Information technology strategies, major systems projects, manufacturing and facility planning and a variety of Distribution and Dealer improvement projects," Arenberg said.

As he rides his Harley across the nation’s great open highways, Arenberg sometimes thinks of his years at Purdue and in the College of Science.

"Purdue provided the core analytical skills that I used throughout my career as a consultant and continue to use as a community volunteer,” Arenberg stated. “I learned that there were no magic answers and that hard work focusing on the basics always paid off."
