Invitation
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to attend the conference at Purdue University entitled “Women in Academia: Institutional Change to Enhance Success.” This website will give you complete details about the conference. Several national leaders will be participating in the conference, among them Virginia Valian, a Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Linguistics at Hunter College and Rita Colwell, former Director of the National Science Foundation, who will set the tone of the conference. Click on the “Registration” link above for registration, travel and hotel information.
The goal of this conference is to create strategies for institutional change at Research I Universities that will eliminate the primary barriers currently inhibiting women faculty from achieving their full potential. The outcomes from this conference will be implementable actions that would reduce or eliminate these and other primary barriers that may be identified during the conference. The recommended actions will form the content of the proposals to be incorporated into a report that will be distributed nationally to all Research I Institutions, key Foundations, and relevant Federal Agencies.
The conference is jointly sponsored by the Susan Bulkeley Butler Institute for the Development of Women Leaders, the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), and Purdue University’s Office of the Provost, Colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, and Science, and School of Management. The conference will begin with registration from 4:00-6:00 PM on Monday, May 16, and end at noon on Wednesday, May 18. All meetings will be held in the Purdue Memorial Union and the adjacent Stewart Center.
The number of participants is limited so if you are interested please contact us as soon as possible. Additional details will be provided once you complete the registration process.
We look forward to your participation in this important initiative.
Sincerely,
Sally Mason, Linda Katehi, and Chris Sahley, Co-chairs
