Math Field Day
The concept for Math Field Day was developed by students in the Mathematics Education Club who wanted to show middle school students that mathematics is practical and fun. The objective of the Field Day is to provide an experience that emphasizes applications of mathematics and encourages middle school students
to further participate in mathematics during their secondary education.
The middle school students come to the West Lafayette Campus for a full day to particpate in challenging and exciting mathematics activities that require problem solving and teamwork. All of the activities will address academic standards identified by the Indiana Department of Education and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Participating Purdue students gain valuable experience working with middle school students and creating standards-based mathematics activities.
