College of Science Web Style Guide
The World Wide Web is a primary resource for audiences seeking information about Purdue University. Web page standards will help present the Purdue University identity clearly, consistently, and with distinction.
The Web standards contain required elements to ensure a consistent brand identity. The standards do allow each unit to customize pages with graphics and content that will express unique qualities and strengths.
Sizes
The Purdue signature should be displayed according to the graphic design standards identified in this manual. No other mark or logo should be placed in direct relationship with the signature unless used in accordance with the guidelines specified here. The recommended dimensions of the Purdue signature are 143 x 45 pixels. The minimum dimensions of the signature are 117 x 39 pixels.
Colors
The official colors of Purdue University are old gold and black and are as recognizable as the various graphic and brand marks that represent the University. Precise matching of the Purdue colors is essential in Web development. Gold should be represented by the hexadecimal value of B1946C. Accent gold should be represented as the hexadecimal value of E0D5C5.
Web Typography
Verdana is the official Web typeface for use in paragraph copy. Italic and bold variations of the Verdana typeface may also be used except in identity applications, as specified in this manual. As a default, set the secondary typefaces as Arial and Helvetica.
University Seal, Secondary Marks, and Logos
The Purdue University seal should only be used for formal and high-profile Web sites. The Purdue seal, secondary marks, and logos should utilize the Purdue Web gold (B1946C), when necessary, and should not be altered in any way from their original design. Allow 30 pixels of space around the marks and logos.
Web Templates
For consistent brand identity, templates will be available at www.pmc.purdue.edu for top-level pages beginning in January 2003. University Web page templates are provided in two formats: Dreamweaver 4.0 and up and HTML files. Templates are provided as an option, not a requirement, for Web development.
Templates for home pages and secondary pages are provided. Templates can be used by Purdue University schools, departments, libraries, administrative and service divisions, research facilities, extension and extended education units, official extended education units, and programs of the University.
Web page templates are also available for the following:
- Class projects for current University students.
- Education and research consortia headquartered at Purdue University but not solely University entities (to indicate their affiliation with Purdue University and as a service to their visitors).
- Internal employee organizations.
- Professional Web pages for faculty, administrators, and (only those staff hosted on University servers).
Templates may not be used by:
- Any Web page not affiliated with the University.
- Web pages of registered Purdue student organizations, because they are independent entities. For use of Purdue marks in these cases, please contact Purdue Marketing Communications, (765) 494-2034, pmc@pmc.purdue.edu.
- Personal Web pages of University faculty, staff, or students.
- University Web pages provided through a commercial entity.

- Home page templates.
- Secondary page templates.
Template General Recommendations
- Pages should not exceed 75k.
- Pages must satisfy W3C priority level one accessibility checkpoints; conformance to levels two and three is recommended.
