The goal: Innovative courses, curricula, and learning environment.

The result:

  • Approval of new curriculum, which includes internships and undergraduate research as integral components.
  • “Carbon Neutrality at Purdue” addresses science in a hands-on, project-oriented setting.
  • Redesigned and modernized introductory physics course, “Matter & Interaction,” where students use atomic models of matter, computer animations, and group problem-solving to learn modern physics.

The goal: Programs that ensure effective communication skills and address ethical and global issues.

The result:

  • New “Great Issues in Science” course explores the role of science in the world and the ethical challenges facing today’s scientists.
  • Collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts to create a technical writing course, which is now required of all new undergraduate sciencestudents.

The goal: Innovative undergraduate research opportunities and internships providing practical training and encouraging creative thinking and discovery.

The result:

  • More than half of science students graduate having completed at least one research-related internship or assistantship. end of story
