1950s

Jack E. Garrett (BS ’52, Science, MS ’54, Chemistry), Monroe Township, NJ, celebrated his 55th wedding anniversary this year to his wife, Ledra.

1960s

Charles J. Bishop (BS ’63, Chemistry), Grafton, WI, retired at the end of 2006 after a 38-year industrial career at Boeing, the Solar Energy Research Institute, and A.O. Smith Corporation.

Martin L. Gorbaty (PhD ’69, Chemistry) received the 2007 Distinguished Researcher Award presented by the Division of Petroleum Chemistry of the American Chemical Society. The award recognizes significant and original achievements in research and development that have advanced the field of petroleum chemistry.

Rebecca A. (Yoder) Haddad (BS ’65, Interdisciplinary Science), Aurora, CO, was a delegate to a global summit on breast cancer awareness in Budapest, Germany.

Anna M. (Beeler) Wilson (BS ’68, Science), Lafayette, IN, has retired from the Biochemistry Department at the Purdue West Lafayette campus after 36 years of service as the coordinator of teaching laboratories.

Elaine C. (Daughetee) Wolfe (BS ’62, Biological Sciences), Indianapolis, IN, has retired is working full-time as a professional artist. She won a merit award at the 2007 Hoosier Salon and at the 2007 SALI National.

1970s

Thomas C. Adang (BS ’73, Atmospheric Sciences), Rio Rancho, NM, is a senior project engineer for The Aerospace Corp.

Gary A. Cummings (BS ’77, Mathematics), Warren, MI, has been appointed as the director of chassis, powertrain integration, HVAC/PTC engineering in LAAM (Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East) for General Motors.

Richard D. Dyer (BS ’71, Biological Sciences, MS ’73, Health Sciences), Ann Arbor, MI, was appointed executive vice president of Product Development for Velcura Therapeutics Inc.

Margaret Peggy Wade Germer (BS ’78 Mathematics) has been named Vice President, Quality for Ontario Systems, LLC, a leading provider of receivables management software for the collections industry.

Michael Halbrook (BS ’71, Computer Science), Bloomfield, IN, was appointed the new director of technology transfer at Ball State University.

Thomas H. Lane (BS ’74, Chemistry), Midland, MI, has been named president-elect of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world’s largest scientific society.

Douglas C. Needham (BS ’77, Biological Sciences), Oxford, PA, is the department head of education at Longwood Gardens.

Diana L. (Miller) Ringo (BS ’72, Biological Sciences), Des Moines, IA, celebrated the birth of her grandson, River, on November 22, 2006.

1980s

Robin R. Brull (BS ’89, Statistics) and Steven S. Fichtelberg welcomed a daughter on July 23, 2007.

Linda R. Chamberlain (BS ’82, Chemistry, PhD ’85, Chemistry), Caledonia, MI, has been named executive director of the West Michigan Science and Technology Initiative.

Sandra J. Haas (BS ’80, Computer Science), Mahoment, IL, is a hospice chaplain at the Carle Home Health Services.

Joseph Karpierz (BS ’81, Computer Science), Geneva, IL, is the senior software engineer for Intrado Inc.

Paul Krishna (MS ’88, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences) is the Environmental & Regulatory Manager for ExxonMobil Development Company in Houston.

Carl J. March (PhD ’80, Chemistry) is president and CEO of Aequus BioPharma Inc. located near Seattle, WA. Aequus is focused on applying its Genetic Polymer technology to the streamlined development of novel and follow-on biologics. Carl and his wife, Susan, live on Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from downtown Seattle.

Patricio A Perez (PhD’84, Physics) is a professor at Universidad de Santiago. On June 25, 23 years after his graduation from Purdue, he visited campus and met some of his former professors in Physics. He also gave a seminar in the School of Health Sciences about his research on models for air pollution forecasting.

Kim Pineda (BS ’89, Computer Science), Henning, TN, has joined the consulting team at InfoWorks.

Carey E. Priebe (BS ’84, Mathematics) is a professor of applied mathematics and statistics at Johns Hopkins University. His research interests include computational statistics, kernel and mixture estimates, statistical pattern recognition, statistical image analysis, and statistical inference for high-dimensional and graph data. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and a Fellow of the American Statistical Association.

Thomas B. Smith (BS ’82, Biological Sciences), Blue Bell, PA, was appointed vice president of medical affairs for Kendle.

1990s

Steve Brizendine (BS ’98, Biological Sciences) graduated from medical school in 2003 and finished his residency in Chicago in 2006. He is now working in internal medicine in Colorado.

Kelli M. (Kerkhoff) Burton (BS ’98, Mathematics), Lafayette, IN, was named to the third team of The Indianapolis Star’s all-time best 33 girls basketball players from its coverage area.

Jason W. Hauger (BS ’97, Mathematics) and Melissa A. Nees (LA’03) were married on July 26, 2007.

Matthew G. Lyons (BS ’97, Physics) and Chanda M. Robertson (LA’98) welcomed a daughter on May 7, 2007.

Andrew C. Perry (BS ’91, Biological Sciences) and Ashley V. Parker were married on September 8, 2007.

Christian Poppeliers (BS ’92, Earth Sciences), Augusta, GA, has joined the Augusta State University’s Department of Chemistry and Physics as an assistant professor.

Xiaoxia (Linda) Zhao (PhD ’97, Biological Sciences) is the founder and CEO of Draco Healthcare Consulting LLC, a California-based pharmaceutical consulting firm focusing on China.

2000s

Ashley J. Allen (BS ’03, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences) and Hélio da Silva welcomed a son on March 12, 2007.

David J. Appleby (BS ’02, Chemistry) left Procter & Gamble in February 2007 and began working as an analytical chemist with The Shepherd Chemical Company in Cincinnati, OH. He also recently married Purdue Liberal Arts alumna Cheryl Appleby (formerly Laird) in September 2007. They are expecting their first child in June 2008.

Spencer J. Hahn (BS ’07, Chemistry), Carmel, IN, is a research associate in the discovery chemistry department of Endocyte Inc.

Jason W. Hauger (BS ’97, Mathematics) and Melissa A. Nees (LA’03) were married on July 26.

Vassili I. Kaplan (MS ’00, Mathematics) and Natalia Kaplan welcomed a daughter on April 9, 2007.

James Kellam (PhD ’03, Biological Sciences) began a new tenure-track position in August 2007 with Saint Vincent College. He teaches freshman Biological Sciences, wildlife Biological Sciences, ornithology, and a course for non-science majors. He is continuing research on woodpecker social behavior and habitat selection. He has also recently completed a study on crow roosts with a collaborator at Pennsylvania State University.

Angela D. Lese (BS ’01, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, MS ’03, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences), Louisville, KY, is a forecaster at the National Weather Service and was recently presented the Regional Isaac M. Cline Award.

Philip C. Livengood (BS ’03, Computer Science) and Sarah E. Clark welcomed a daughter on June 24, 2007.

Margo Mancl (BS ’02, Biological Sciences) and Jason Roche were married on August 4, 2007.

Laura M. Warlow (BS ’02, Biological Sciences) and Marshall A. Pomeroy (AT’02) welcomed a son on September 9, 2007.
