Institute of Mathematical Statistics honors Professor Rubin

The Institute of Mathematical Statistics has published a Festschrift, or commemorative volume, in honor of Professor Herman Rubin of the Department of Statistics and his diverse and many deep contributions to mathematical sciences over more than 50 years. Professor Rubin has been at Purdue since 1967 and has distinguished himself in the fields of statistics, probability theory, numerical analysis, and pure mathematics. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The volume is a collection of 32 original papers and two biographical accounts. The topics of the original articles touch on the main themes in which Professor Rubin has contributed, as well as other topics of intense current activity. The authors include several members of the National Academy of Science, Fellows of the Royal Society, winners of the National Science Medal, Presidents of societies, editors of the best journals in statistics.

The Department of Statistics honored Professor Rubin with a special seminar on “Bayesian and Pseudo-Bayesian procedures for nonparametric regression estimation and pointwise confidence bands” presented by Professor Larry Brown, distinguished professor of Statistics at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the National Academy of Science.
