Robert Bauman (B.S. Chemistry and Physics; M.S. 1951, Physical Chemistry) is professor of physics emeritus at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His research interests have been centered in molecular physics and the applications of physics to accident reconstruction. Dr. Bauman has been listed in Who's Who in America; Who's Who in the South and Southwest; Who's Who in the World; and American Men and Women of Science.

John P. Neary (B.S. 1982, Environmental Science) reports that he is entering 13 years of medical practice in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. John was named to the “Best Doctors in America” list, and his oldest son graduated from Purdue in May 2005.

David Seiler (Ph.D. 1969, Physics) was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. David, who is chief of the Semiconductor Electronics Division of NIST and a member of the Science Dean’s Leadership Council, was recognized for leadership in the development of critical metrology and measurement science at the micro and nano levels.

Jing Shyr (Ph.D. 1984, Statistics) has been named a distinguished alumna of Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan. Jing is a Science distinguished alumna and a member of the Dean’s Leadership Council.

Christine Hixon Smiley (M.S. 1995, Statistics) and her husband Ken Smiley (M.S. 1995, Statistics) welcomed their son, Nolan Kenneth Smiley, on January 26, 2006 at 8:29 a.m. Christine reports that Nolan weighed 7 lb. 5 oz. and was 19.5 inches long.

Kimberly Van Gessel (B.S. 1997; M.S. 2000, Atmospheric Science) and her husband Jeramie (Computer Technology, 1997) welcomed their first child, Jake, on April 6, 2004.
