Learning Communities for College of Science Students

The Science Diversity Office
offers programs that cultivate an inclusive environment to enhance the educational experience of women and minorities, who have traditionally been underrepresented in science.

Multicultural Science Programs (MSP)
• SCI 100 - a Fall semester course that cultivates leadership skills, provides a forum for multicultural student concerns, and introduces support systems.
• Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics - Academic Boot Camp (STEM ABC) - a four week on campus exploration of the rigors of the Purdue Science environment.
• Bonding - majority and underrepresented minority students form a living and learning community in which they share enhanced content classes, study groups, and support systems.

Women in Science Programs (WISP)
• Earhart Residence Hall Program - first-year women can opt to reside together in the WISP section of Earhart residence hall.
• Undergraduate Mentoring Program - WISP freshmen are paired with upperclass mentors who share the same academic major and similar interests.
• Tutoring - A tutoring center is conveniently located in Earhart Hall to serve the WISP students.

Freshman Honors Program
Students who have a combined SAT score of 1360 (ACT 31) and are in the top 5% of their graduating class are eligible to participate in the Freshman Honors Program. This program includes two seminars, SCI 110 and a departmental seminar, in addition to a social and leadership component.

Career Solutions
The Undergraduate Academic Advising Office has a staff of career counselors to help you take a comprehensive look at yourself and occupations and find a “match” within a field of study and/or employment. We can also help you form your own professional development action plan, including locating an internship or summer job, preparing a resume, practicing interviewing, and learning job-hunting skills.
