| Academic advisor | Your academic resource person, who, among other things, will help you set appropriate goals and decide strategies for accomplishing these goals, will help you design a plan of study, and will register you for classes. | Career account | Your Purdue e-mail account and log-in to campus computers.
Accessible on- and off-campus, it will be your official Purdue e-mail account. It can be forwarded to an existing account. |

| CODO | Change of Degree Objective; the process of switching to a major outside of the school in which you are currently enrolled. | |
| Free electives | Courses that provide credit hours toward graduation but do not satisfy specific graduation requirements. For example, band, bowling, and ceramics. | |
| Gen ed (general education) | A 9-credit-hour requirement of courses in humanities, social sciences, and management from departments like psychology, economics, and history. | |
| Lab science | You are required to complete a two course sequence in a lab science outside your major. Not just any will do! See Approved Lab Science Courses for a list. | |
| Oversubscribed course | A course with a waiting list. If you enroll in one,
your schedule will say “awaiting space.” |

| PUID | Used as residence hall identification and meal card, to check out library materials, cash checks, purchase convocation and theatre tickets, and receive discounts and privileges for Purdue students. Commit this number to memory. | |
| Recitation | A small group formed from a larger class of students that meets once or twice a week to discuss the lectures, go over homework questions, and provide individual attention. | |
| SSINFO | Student Services Information on the Web; a Web-based student information system from which you can get your schedule, grades, financial aid status, student employment, tutor lists, Purdue-pay, and more. Available 24 hours daily at http://www.ssinfo.purdue.edu. This system will become My Purdue in July 2008. | |
| TA | Teaching assistant, typically a graduate student, assigned
to lead recitation sections or grade homework papers. |
