Teaching Programs

If you are interested in earning a license to teach math or science at the secondary school level, then Science at Purdue is the place for you! Students in our teaching programs will complete a curriculum which is almost identical to the non-teaching curricula. This gives our education graduates an excellent, in-depth background in the subject that they wish to teach. All students in the teaching majors are required to remain in contact with the Office of Professional Preparation and Licensure (OPPL) to be certain that they complete the requirements set by the State of Indiana to earn a teaching license, in addition to the math and science courses required for the specific major of choice.

Required courses for all teaching majors include:

Block I:
- EDCI 205, Exploring Teaching, 3 credit hours
- EDCI 285, Multiculturalism and Education, 3 credit hours
Block II:
- EDPS 235, Learning and Motivation, 3 credit hours
- EDPS 265, The Inclusive Classroom, 3 credit hours
Secondary Teaching Methods, 3 credit hours (title and number vary by subject)
Student Teaching, 10 credit hours

Additional education courses are required in most programs.
