Subject: Faculty Hiring Request Procedures and Forms

Dear Science faculty:

As a follow-up to the very productive May 9 retreat, the College Hiring Priorities Committee will be putting together a report in the coming weeks summarizing the results of the retreat and next steps, including the process for requesting core departmental searches and COALESCE II multidisciplinary searches.

In the meantime, I'm happy to mention that some key parts of that information are already available on the CHPC web site:

    http://www.science.purdue.edu/chpc/

In particular, there you can find the new faculty search request procedures that we will use for the coming academic year.  They were finalized this week by the department heads during the Leadership Team executive session.  The search request templates are also available online.  We hope that this information will spur faculty and departments to continue the discussions of May 9 about leveraging the COALESCE II faculty slots.  Roughly 20% of turnover slots will be placed into the COALESCE II pool and be available for leveraging.  Please share this information with colleagues in other colleges and schools who may be interested in a collaborative request for faculty searches.  Core departmental search requests are due August 27, and COALESCE II requests (which leverage core departmental requests or searches in other colleges) are due September 15.

The web site also includes the summary of the May 9 afternoon session, a listing of the priorities expressed by other colleges during the May 2 lunch meeting, and a matrix showing the connection among the white papers and the individual departments.

Please feel free to contact me or Assoc. Deans Jeff Bolin and George McCabe if you have questions or suggestions.

Have a good weekend!

  -- Jeff
