Nancy W. Brickhouse

Nancy Brickhouse leads almost 70 faculty and 1,200 students in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. She has led the SOE faculty through major curriculum reforms to better prepare K-8 teachers in science, mathematics, English, and social studies.
As a researcher, she has authored more than 30 journal articles and book chapters and is a sought-after speaker for conferences and presentations around the world. She recently completed a large National Science Foundation-funded projected titled, “Bringing young girls into science with books and inquiry.” Her scholarship has focused on teaching and learning about the nature of science as well as on issues of equity and multiculturalism. Her professional activities include service with the National Association for Research in Science Teaching and the American Educational Research Association. She recently competed a 5-year term as the editor of one of the premier journals in her field, Science Education.
She is the mother of two children, David (age 12) and Elise (age 9) and is married to a Purdue Alumnus, Mark Brickhouse (PhD 1988, Chemistry). The Brickhouse family lives in Newark, Delaware.
