W. Paul Glezen

Paul Glezen is a professor in the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology, as well as professor and Head of the Preventive Medicine Section in the Department of Pediatrics. He is an often-quoted expert on immunization policies and practices, particularly on influenza immunization for children.
Dr. Glezen studies the role of respiratory viruses as causes of infections with serious consequences, particularly for patients with underlying conditions, and evaluates methods to control these infections. He also researches immunization of children with live attenuated influence vaccines to control community epidemics, and he is studying maternal immunization as an approach to control serious infections of newborns by passive immunity.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Glezen has been active in national advisory committees and task forces. He was a member of the Epidemiology and Disease Control study section of the NIH from 1985 to 1989, and he served as a member of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices from 1987 to 1990, and was the liaison representative of the Infectious Diseases Society of America to the ACIP from 1993 to 1998. He was a member of the Influenza Technical Advisory Group for the Medicare Demonstration Project, HCFA, from 1990 to 1993 and the Consultative Group for Vaccine Development with the National Vaccine Program Office from 1991 to 1993. He has served since 1990 as medical expert with the Department of Health and Human Services Childhood Vaccine Injury Program. He has been appointed to the task force on adult and maternal immunization for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for 2005-06.
Dr. Glezen and his wife, Dottie - also a Purdue alumna - have two children and live in Missouri City , Texas .
