Women In Science Programs

Living, learning, and growing together

Whitney Vann, Junior in Biochemistry, ‘09 shares about her WISP experience:

The Women in Science Programs (WISP) is a great way to meet others in your major and other scientific fields.  It is highly advantageous to networking and professional development.  Our monthly programs feature a guest speaker that focuses on future opportunities for women in science.  We have socials as well!  For example, we went to the movies as a group and to Wolf Park.  The freshmen in the program live together in a learning community in Earhart Hall and are mentored by an upperclassman.  This is a great way to meet people in your classes, form study groups, and learn from someone who has already had experience in your major.  After your freshman year, you can then become a mentor.

I think this is a great program.  I started off my freshman year in the learning community, then as a sophomore I became a mentor, and just recently I became a member of the WISP leadership team.  I've met most of my close friends in the WISP learning community.  I am living with one of them now and we're living with another girl from the program next year.  It has been a great source of friendship, support, networking, and development.
