Undergraduate Research and Poster Symposium Poster Guidelines

  • Size — It is suggested that your poster be no larger than 4’ wide by 3’ high.
  • Color — Your poster may be in color or black and white. It should be attention getting to attract people to it.
  • Information — It is important that your poster contain as much information as possible, but that it is not a book — this is to “show” your project. There will be no laptops allowed as you will be able to explain the poster to the judges and others who come by. Due to fire codes and to keep the isles clear for the walking traffic, there will be no tables allowed in the poster area.
  • Hanging — We will provide the pins for you to hang your poster. Please do not mount your poster on a backing as this makes it very difficult to hang.
  • Space —Your space will be randomly chosen. You may not request 2 spaces or a specific space in the room.
  • Set-up — You are responsible to have your poster set up and ready by 1:30pm.
  • Tear-down —You are responsible to see that your poster and anything in your area is removed at the end of the awards ceremony. Do not take down your poster during the awards ceremony, as people may want to take pictures.
  • Judging —The judges are selected from the various colleges that are participating as well as students. Judges may not have any idea about your area of study so it's important that you are able to explain your presentation. If you have a class and must leave, it is important that we know that prior to the competition so we are able to schedule the judges accordingly.
